New partner: Ballstad Slip
As the name suggests, Ballstad Slip is located in Lofoten, where they have a long and proud history. The company was established in 1918 and employs around 40 people. They work primarily with the coastal fishing fleet and within aquaculture, and in addition to the shipyard, they run a marine supplies store and offer fire and safety certified fleet service.
Right now, the final push is underway for a major expansion of the facilities: more than 10,000 square metres of new industrial area and a boat lift capable of handling vessels up to 820 tonnes. Construction is in its final phase, and the lift is being shipped from Italy in June.
Managing Director Roger Abrahamsen says the aim is to increase capacity and go all in on aquaculture.
— Fisheries have always been at the core of what we do — and that won't change. Now we're making a major leap that also positions us to work on most types of vessels used in the aquaculture industry. The facility we currently have is too narrow for the newer boats, which is why we're investing in the boat lift — along with a lot of other equipment. As we do this, it's a natural step to bring in new partners, to ensure a product range that covers the needs of this market.
He describes SHM as one of the companies they see a natural fit with.
— What we see is that SHM equipment is on board a large number of service vessels, and that SHM is regarded as a serious supplier with high-quality products and a very strong market position. That's why I think we're a good match, and why this partnership is important to us. With the new boat lift and the SHM agreement, we will now be a complete supplier within aquaculture.
Abrahamsen describes the partnership as a win-win for both companies.
— We bring the right location, broad experience and deep expertise in areas such as installation and hydraulics.
— Ballstad Slip has made a strong impression on us so far, says Yngve Bøe Myklebust, CEO of SHM Solutions.
— This is a partnership we’re genuinely excited about, and we look forward to getting properly started.
